Crystal Palace and Southampton Set Sights on Watford's Danny Welbeck

Watford striker Danny Welbeck could be offered a swift return to the Premier League, with Crystal Palace and Southampton both said to be interested.

The former Arsenal and Manchester United striker had a tough 2019/20 campaign, which saw Watford relegated from England's top flight following a five-year stay. Welbeck only managed three goals for the Hornets in 20 appearances in all competitions, but does have a wealth of experience that he could bring to Selhurst Park or St Mary's.

Although Palace seem to be paving the way for youngsters to be at the forefront of the club's future, there's no doubting that Welbeck's experience could help mould the likes of Eze in the future - while also relieving the burden of expectation on talisman Wilfried Zaha.

As for Southampton, Danny Ings was in incredible form last season, netting 22 goals in the Premier League. With Shane Long, Michael Obafemi and Che Adams also options for Ralph Hasenhuttl, adding a striker is not necessarily a primary concern - but Welbeck's physical presence could offer something different.

The Saints have also been active in this summer's window, too, making Kyle Walker-Peters' loan move from Tottenham permanent. Centre-back Mohammed Salisu has also moved to the south coast from Real Valladolid, but former captain Pierre-Emile Højbjerg has departed to further his career at Tottenham.
