The world's worst kept secret is finally out, as the Eagles have confirmed the appointment of Trevor Francis as manager.

Trevor Francis has been confirmed as Crystal Palace's new manager, and has signed a four-year deal at Selhurst Park.

Hopefully, not so much of that ...

He replaces Steve Bruce, who in a bizarre twist of fate, of course, has been all set to take over from Francis at Birmingham for the past few weeks.

"After a difficult period for the club, which was long and drawn out though controlled, I am very pleased to announce this appointment," said Palace chairman Simon Jordan.

"Trevor has a wealth of experience and knowledge of the First Division and a record that is second to none outside the Premiership. We look forward to resuming our progress to the Premier League."

It's certainly true that it needs resuming, as with all the recent turmoil we have certainly been struggling quite badly, and our games in hand have all but disappeared without too much gain.

Jordan confirmed that the backroom staff of Steve Kember and Terry Bullivant would continue their role at the club.

"Trevor has signed a four year contract ... we now look forward to a stable period of progress where the football will once again do the talking." he stated.

Personally I'm not convinced this is a good appointment. I guess we'd better be prepared for plenty of misery and moaning when things are not going so well. But, I suppose he's the new man, and lets give him the chance to see what he can do!
