Jones remains hopeful over Ambrose signing

Assistant boss Mick Jones still believes Crystal Palace midfielder Darren Ambrose could join QPR before the start of the 2010/11 npower Championship campaign. Ambrose was on the verge of leaving Palace to be reunited with former manager Neil Warnock at Loftus Road earlier this summer but the proposed £750,000 switch was put on hold after the Eagles were saved from the brink of extinction by the CPFC 2010 consortium. Palace boss George Burley revealed earlier this month he was set to begin talks with Ambrose over a new deal after the player had told him of his desire to stay with the club. But QPR have not given up hope of landing the 26-year-old and Jones told the Kilburn Times: "The bid's on the table and it's substantial. Remember, we took him to Palace on a free transfer and we feel the bid is more than fair. "But Neil's in two minds in that he wants to look after Palace as well and that's why the offer is a good one. If they ask for more I can't see us upping the bid but equally I can't see them keeping a player who doesn't want to be there. "Hopefully it's going to get resolved and Darren will become our player before the start of the season. If he doesn't, we've got other people in mind."
