African defender arrives on trial

Iain Dowie is casting his eye over the talents of Namibian international Razundara Tjikuzu, who has arrived at Selhurst on trial.

Tjikuzu is known as a right-back, but can also operate in midfield. Since we’re pretty well set for right-backs at the moment – despite Danny B’s lay-offs – it seems likely Dowie fancies slotting him into the middle of the park.

If he’s up to it, Tjikuzu could perhaps offer some competition for Wayne Routledge’s currently untouchable right-wing starting spot.

The 25-year-old Namibian is currently a free agent, so he could sign for the club even though the transfer window is shut.

Whether he’ll fit into the hard-working ethos that prevails in SE25 these days is another matter. Tjikuzu has acquired himself a bit of a reputation as a loose cannon, having recently had a contract with German club Hansa Rostock cancelled when he missed a training session after a big night on the tiles. But then, if anyone can get the best out of him, Dowie certainly can!
