The Eagles' own season is over, but it's a totally different story for the Tykes. They are just two points ahead of Yorkshire rivals Leeds United with three matches left to play.
And with Leeds facing a demanding trip to play-off chasing Southampton, Barnsley have the chance to make themselves all but safe if they beat Peter Taylor's side.
The Tykes will fancy their chances against a Palace team with nothing to play for, but Taylor has promised he will not be choosing this game to start blooding youngsters.
"I will be tempted to name a young side for [the final match at] Colchester, but not before that against Barnsley or Derby," Taylor told the official site.
"We will be playing our strongest team out of fairness to the clubs in our division."
Julian Speroni may get a rare start in goal in place of Gabor Kiraly, but winger Paul Ifill is definitely out as illness restricts him to the sidelines once again.Michael Hughes, Stuart Green and Dougie Freedman will all be missing through injury.
