Barrett keen to take chance

Crystal Palace defender Adam Barrett has revealed he was thinking about a loan move away from the club - but after earning his first start he is now focused on earning a regular place in the side. The 30-year-old, who was snapped up by the Eagles in the summer after leaving Southend, played the full 90 minutes for the first time in a Palace shirt in the defeat to Swansea on Saturday after featuring in just one reserve game in the last two months. Barrett, who caught the eye against the Swans despite the 3-0 loss, said he was seriously considering spending time away from Selhurst Park in order to keep up his match fitness. He told the South London Press: "I was fourth choice and I needed to be playing because I wanted to be match-fit if the club need me. A loan was something that I was looking at. "But then Claude Davis got sent off and Anthony Gardner got injured - it gave me an opening and I'm determined to make the most of it."
