Burley relieved to have kept Speroni

Speroni, the Eagles' player of the year for the past three seasons, has been linked with a number of top-flight clubs and would have been out of contract in the summer until he penned a three-and-a-half year deal last week.

And despite a 3-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest, Speroni was comfortably Palace's man of the match with a host of top-class saves to prevent a real hammering.

"Julian is a good goalkeeper and that's why we've worked hard to try and keep him on a long contract which thankfully we have," said Burley.
