Butterfield sets ultimatum

Danny Butterfield has warned he will be forced to leave Palace unless he gets more games.

The defender has been reduced to a bit-part role over the past few seasons as first Emerson Boyce and then Matt Lawrence have claimed the right back spot as their own.

The 27-year old is now in the final year of his contract, and he admits he must be playing regular first-team football before he could consider signing a new one.

"I'm very frustrated I haven't been playing," Butterfield told the Croydon Advertiser. "I thought I had a good pre-season. I was raring to go, but so far I've just been sat waiting for my chance.

"I haven't really spoken to the manager about it. I was told at the start of the season Matty Lawrence would be starting at right back. So I knew I would have to wait for my chance. But time's running out."

Butterfield has not yet been offered an extension to his contract, which runs out next summer. However, he expects something to happen around the New Year.

"It's completely out of my hands - the manager and chairman will make a decision on that. I would imagine something will happen one way or another in January.

"If I'm offered a new deal, whether I sign it depends on whether or not I'm playing regular football. I don't intend to sign a contract at a club where I'm sat on the sidelines every week. My priority's to play football, wherever that may be. We'll just have to wait and see."
