Southampton have won first prize in this year's Coca Cola ‘Win a player' competition.

The Saints bag a £250,000 transfer kitty to spend next season, with League One side Brentford and League Two outfit Oxford Utd both winning £50,000 as runners-up.

The competition has been running on the Coca Cola website since January, and fans could increase the chances of their club winning by entering the prize draw on a daily basis.

Leeds were the favourites to grab top prize, with the Yorkshire club's fans making 219,969 entries into the draw. Runners-up Brentford had the second highest amount with 138,372 and Sheffield Wednesday were third with 137,075.

Eventual winners Southampton only came 18th in the list of most entries, with 31,720. Runners-up Oxford were way back in 37th with 15,935.

Palace's chances of getting anywhere in the competition were always slim, with the Eagles coming 53rd with just 11,062 entries.

Eighty-four teams from the Football League and Scottish leagues entered the contest.
