Kennedy was hoping to make his comeback from a calf injury against the Blades but the fixture has come too early for the Irishman who will watch from the sidelines alongside former Blades winger Paul Ifill who is ruled out because of a hamstring strain and is likely to be absent for another two weeks.

However, Taylor can take heart from the return of midfielder Ben Watson who came through the full 90 minutes as the Eagles played out a 1-1 draw with Coventry on Wednesday while full-back Matt Lawrence will be hoing to start after he was forced to sit on the bench against the Sky Blues.

Sheffield United manager Bryan Robson is likely to be without a trio of midfielders for the trip to Selhurst Park.

Lee Hendrie was expected to be available for selection but complained of stiffness after a reserve game in midweek as he stepped up his comeback from a knee problem, while Nick Montgomery is rated as 'highly unlikely' to start as he is yet to fully recover from a double hernia operation.

Robson has been dealt another blow as midfielder David Carney has emerged as a doubt after suffering a hip injury during Tuesday's 2-2 draw with Blackpool.

However, new loan signing Gary Cahill is available for selection and is expected to come straight into the starting 11.

The 21 year-old defender could offer Robson more stability in central defence as United search for their first away win of the season.

Derek Geary is missing as he serves the last in his three-match suspension following his dismissal against Scunthorpe.
