Dowie determined to stay

Iain Dowie has delivered a withering riposte to those who thought he might jump ship following Palace’s relegation to the Championship.

"Where am I going, then?" quizzed Dowie. "That is a silly question to ask because I take the responsibility for relegation as the manager.

"I am proud of the team's performance and proud to be their manager. It's been that way all season.

"The fact is we are a Championship side again now and have to be better for our experience. If we can get away like greyhounds out of the traps next season we will be a better side."

Dowie was also in confident mood about his chances of keeping hold of Andrew Johnson, following the striker’s successful first season in the Premiership.

"He is a Premiership player, that is true, but he is contracted to us," said Dowie.

"He signed for four or five years in January and as far as I am concerned he will be reporting for pre-season training."
