Dowie homes in on Eastwood

Palace are believed to be in the market for yet another striker to add to their ever-growing collection, with Southend’s Freddie Eastwood latest to be in the frame.

Eastwood has been outstanding for the Shrimpers since joining from non-league Grays last season, and it would reportedly take a bid of around £500,000 to persuade the south coast club to sell.

Whether Palace really need another striker is a different matter. Andrew Johnson is confident of his chances of coming back from injury to play against Coventry on Saturday and Jon Macken should also be back in contention.

Along with Clinton Morrison, Dougie Freedman and Wayne Andrews, that makes five established strikers already at Selhurst Park. Many would argue the Eagles’ transfer priorities should lie in other areas of the pitch.
