Dowie set for Charlton job

Iain Dowie is set to be unveiled as the new Charlton boss in a press conference at The Valley on Tuesday.

Dowie has been heavily linked with the position since announcing his departure from his positon as Palace manager on Monday.

He faced strong competition from Preston's Billy Davies, but the North End board announced earlier on Friday that Charlton had ended their interest in the 41-year-old Scot.

That leaves the way clear for Dowie to take over from outgoing Charlton boss Alan Curbishley, despite claims from Palace that he was leaving the club to be nearer to his family in Oldham.
