Dowie up for FQ award

Everyone knows about former rocket-scientist Iain Dowie’s top-of-the-class IQ – but now the Palace boss could pick up an award for his high FQ.

Dowie’s abilities in keeping the Eagles out of the bottom three have been recognised by uhlsport and FourFourTwo – who have nominated the manager for their Football Quotient Awards.

The monthly awards have been developed to recognise those who display an ‘advanced understanding of the beautiful game’ – or FQ.

Paul Reaney, chairman of the award committee said: "Iain Dowie has been a breath of fresh air in the Premiership this season, bringing much-needed insight, honesty and humour to his interviews. If Palace stay up, surely he’ll be Manager of the Year."

Dowie finds himself up against football writer Henry Winter, Arsenal striker Dennis Bergkamp and Gabi Stan, coach of Romanian side FC Brasoz, for January’s gong.

Stan has been nominated for the awards for promoting good behaviour among his squad by fining his players £10 every time they swear on the pitch.

Any Palace fans wanting to help Dowie on his way to the trophy can vote for the Palace boss at www.precisionfootball.com.

You have to register to vote, but it gets you the chance to win an uhlsport team kit – or an end-of-season prize of free tickets to a Serie A game.
