Dowie's Oldham swoop falters

Oldham keeper Les Pogliacomi has turned down a transfer to Palace, with team-mate Paul Murray also looking likely to be staying put.

The pair were approached by Iain Dowie this week, and travelled down to London on Monday to discuss possible deals. Oldham appeared resigned to losing both – but in a abrupt U-turn Pogliacomi has confirmed to the official Oldham web site that he will not be leaving the club.

Murray is still considering the offer from Selhurst, but it appears his transfer is also unlikely. The highly-rated midfielder spoke out about the proposed move on Friday.

"I knew that Iain was going to come in for me because when he left he said he would," Murray said.

"We went down to Palace on Monday to talk to them and to be honest it’s a great setup and I won’t hide the fact that I would like to work with the gaffer again. He’s very professional and I’ve no doubt he will be successful.

"It’s a massive decision. On the football side of it, things look fine but I have a young family to consider and have already spent five years in London with Q.P.R. which weren’t the best of times.

"I hope to speak to the new owners about a possible deal that could persuade me to stay here at Boundary Park."
