Everton v Palace - Team news preview

Palace could be four points adrift from safety by the time this game is played, should the unthinkable happen and Southampton pick up a second consecutive away win at Blackburn on Saturday.

No matter what the result at Ewood Park, though, this is a game the Eagles desperately need to take something from. We’ve managed just one away point from five matches since the New Year - three more on Sunday would be the perfect tonic to take a little of the pressure off our remaining home games.

Goodison Park has not been a happy hunting ground for many teams this season, but this is a decent time to be playing the Toffees. Their form has been wobbling of late and heaps of pressure is on them to keep themselves in that fourth spot.

The injury problems that faced Iain Dowie before last weekend’s match have eased a little – with Gonzalo Sorondo and Danny Butterfield edging back to fitness.

With Emmerson Boyce out for the rest of the season, Butterfield could replace Mikele Leigertwood at right-back. However, Sorondo will be touch-and-go, and Mark Hudson is likely to keep his place at the back following an impressive display against Boro last week.

Nicola Ventola got back into competitive football during the week with a run-out for the reserves – but he’s still a little way off first-team fitness.

Everton will be missing a few key players – notably James McFadden, Alessandro Pistone and James Beattie.
