Jordan: AJ still in England frame

Andrew Johnson is still in the box seat for a place in England's World Cup squad, according to Simon Jordan.

The Palace chairman believes AJ is perfect back up for first-choice striker Michael Owen – who is still struggling to get back from injury in time for this summer's tournament.

And Jordan revealed that England's management team are still keeping careful tabs on the Eagles hotshot.

"[England assistant boss] Tord Grip was at Derby to watch him last Saturday, and they are not watching him for no reason," said Jordan.

"I think Johnson is a natural replacement for Michael Owen, because he plays in the same way.

"Jermain Defoe is out of favour at Tottenham, Darren Bent is a long shot, and is Darius Vassell really a candidate?"
