Liverpool v Palace - Team news preview

Last updated : 12 November 2004 By Nik Taylor

Palace face another massive battle on Saturday as they travel to Anfield to take on Liverpool.

The Eagles will be in fine spirits ahead of the clash after last week’s impressive home point against champions Arsenal.

But Iain Dowie has a few injuries to concern him, notably the hip problem Andy Johnson picked up in the match last weekend.

AJ will have a late fitness test, which he is expected to come through. The news isn’t so positive for Fitz Hall, whose knee problem will likely keep him out once again.

Gonzalo Sorondo will also remain on the sidelines, with Dowie saying his hamstring injury will keep him out of action for up to six weeks.

That leaves to door open for Mikele Leigertwood to build upon the top-notch display he put in after coming on as a sub against the Gunners.

Wayne Routledge, meanwhile, is expected to recover from the neck injury he picked up last week.

Liverpool, as usual, are proving to be inconsistent this season – world-beaters one week, one-trick ponies the next. However, putting last week’s home defeat to Birmingham to one side, they have otherwise fine form at Anfield having won their other four league games there.

The Reds expect to have star striker Milan Baros available once again after injury – although Djibril Cisse is of course out for the season. Liverpool have no other major injury concerns ahead of the game.
