Man United v Palace – Team news preview

Last updated : 10 November 2004 By Nik Taylor

Iain Dowie leads Palace to Old Trafford for the Carling Cup fourth round clash tonight facing a selection dilemma.

Should he stick with the fringe players that won so impressively in the previous round at Charlton, or go for the in-form first-team squad that claimed a valuable point at home to Arsenal on Saturday?

It seems the former is more likely, with a crop of minor-sounding injuries having suddenly appeared. AJ will certainly be rested, as will Wayne Routledge who was forced off early in the second-half against the Gunners.

Also ruled out are Vassilis Lakis and Gonzalo Sorondo with hamstring tweaks. Fitz Hall is still recovering from the knee injury which kept him out on Saturday.

United will, of course, offer a team radically different to that which played Manchester City at the weekend. Their strike-force is expected to be Louis Saha and David Bellion, with teenager Giuseppe Rossi tipped to make his debut tonight.

Probable Palace XI:

Butterfield Leigertwood Hudson Borrowdale
