Norwich v Palace – Team news preview

Last updated : 12 August 2005 By Nik Taylor

Two of last season’s relegated Premiership clubs meet at Carrow Road tomorrow aiming to improve on disappointing starts to the season.

Two matches into the new campaign and Norwich find themselves in lower mid-table while Palace are propping up the entire league.

On paper, Palace’s two losses look to be the worse results. But both Norwich’s matches have been at home and both have been drawn against opposition expected to do no better than mid-table this season (Coventry and Crewe). Palace, meanwhile, will take heart from a spirited midweek display against Wolves that they were unlucky to lose.

Both teams will be desperate to kick-start their seasons with a much-needed win, and both have fitness boosts ahead of kick-off.

Palace look set to welcome back Danny Granville, Aki Riihilahti and Dougie Freedman from injury. None of the trio have featured yet this season, but boss Iain Dowie appears confident all three will be fit to face the Canaries.

Youssef Safri could be back in the starting line-up for Norwich after he returned to action as a second-half substitute against Crewe in midweek. On-loan Dean Marney looks to have shaken off an injury and Jason Jarrett should keep his place in defence ahead of Simon Charlton.

Probable Palace XI:

Kiraly
Boyce Hall Ward Borrowdale
McAnuff Hughes Riihilahti Soares
Macken Johnson
