Norwich v Palace: Team news preview

Last updated : 15 September 2006 By Nik Taylor

Things can only get better, can't they? Tuesday's home defeat to Southampton was one of the most spineless, despondent displays put in by Palace for a long time.

But the matches aren't getting any easier, and the Eagles now have to face up to an away trip to a lively Norwich side.

If we're going to get anything from the game, it's going to have to be done without half the first-choice midfield.

Tom Soares' ankle injury means he now joins Ben Watson and Carl Fletcher on the sidelines – leaving Peter Taylor to delve into the reserves to fill his first eleven. Stuart Green is most likely to take Soares' place after the former Hull man came on as sub during the Saints match.

Danny Butterfield and Danny Granville are certain to be restored to their full back roles, after the pair were spectators for Tuesday night's shambolic defensive performance. It's possible Darren Ward may also get his chance to show what he can do alongside Leon Cort in the middle of defence.

Whether Taylor will stick with new signing Shefki Kuqi up front remains to be seen. The Finn looked desperately short of fitness in midweek, and Dougie Freedman and Clinton Morrison must surely be pushing hard for a starting spot alongside James Scowcroft.

Norwich are waiting on midfield duo Lee Croft and Carl Robinson, both of whom will have late fitness tests. The Canaries have left-back Patrick Boyle available after he signed on loan from Everton.
