Nuno Espirito Santo will not be named Crystal Palace manager after talks between the two parties broke down.
Santo left Wolves at the end of last season and has been linked with vacant positions at Everton and Tottenham. Somewhat surprisingly, though, it was widely reported on Monday that he was close to being named Roy Hodgson's successor at Crystal Palace.
In another twist, the Telegraph's Sam Wallace has reported that the deal has now fallen through. After lengthy negotiations no agreement could be struck, meaning Santo is back on the market.
Palace are set for a busy summer. Not only do they still have to find a manager, they also have a long list of first team players out of contract at the end of the month. 13 members of the squad will be free to sign deals at rival clubs on 30 June, including Jeffrey Schlupp, Andros Townsend, Patrick van Aanholt, Joel Ward and James McCarthy.
Palace will also have to deal with interest in Wilfried Zaha, who has been linked with a move to Everton and Tottenham, while Eberechi Eze will miss a significant chunk of next season after picking up a nasty injury.
In terms of Palace's next move on the managerial front, Swansea City boss Steve Cooper is a potential candidate, as is Eddie Howe. Howe has been out of work since leaving Bournemouth at the end of last season and recently turned down the Celtic job. Frank Lampard is an outsider for the Palace position as well.
Meanwhile, Santo will also have to assess his options. Both Everton and Spurs represent interesting options for the Portuguese, though whether either club will pursue his services remains to be seen.
