Palace draw Charlton in Cup

Last updated : 23 September 2004 By Nik Taylor

Palace avoided the big names in the third round draw of the Carling Cup by drawing former tenants Charlton Athletic.

The match will take place at the Valley during the week commencing October 25th. Charlton normally play their midweek home games on a Tuesday, so expect a 7.45pm kick-off on Tuesday October 26th.

Our opponents carved out a narrow 2-0 victory at League Two strugglers Grimsby Town in the second round, and have no pedigree when it comes to this competition.

Since the League Cup started in 1960, Charlton have never progressed beyond the fourth round. And in the last 16 years, they have only once managed to make it past the third.

In those 16 years, Palace have three times made the semi-finals of the League Cup, and will be hoping to go one better this term.

Portsmouth v Leeds
Chelsea v West Ham
