Palace miss out on Miller

Sunderland are set to complete the purchase of Ipswich midfielder Tommy Miller, effectively ending Palace’s interest in the player.

Miller is away on holiday at the moment, but his father and agent (also called Tommy Miller) has confirmed the 26-year-old will sign for the Black Cats on his return.

"Subject to him passing his medical next Wednesday, he is signing for Sunderland," said Miller snr.

Palace had been regularly linked with the out-of-contract Miller, who was also rumoured to have attracted the interest of Leeds, Celtic and Wigan.

But the lure of Premiership football seems to have settled the deal, with Miller snr adding: "He had plenty of options, but if he was going to stay in the Championship, he would have stayed with Ipswich.

However, it looks as though the Ipswich exodus is not over yet – and Palace may yet pick up a bargain from Portman Road.

Shefki Kuqi, who banged in 22 goals for the Tractor Boys last season, is also out of contract soon and is reportedly a target for the Eagles. It’s thought Blackburn Rovers are tracking the 28-year-old too.
