Palace sign Aussie star

Iain Dowie has snapped up out-of-contract Australian midfielder Anthony Danze on a two-year deal.

The highly rated 20-year-old turned down a move to Southampton three years ago, in favour of proving himself in his home country.

He’s now represented Australia at all youth levels, and was the youngest member of this year’s Olympic squad. During that campaign, he replaced Tim Cahill in midfield in their quarter-final match against Iraq

He became a free agent after leaving Perth Glory this summer, and has been on trial at Palace since the start of September.

"He has signed for two years," Dowie told the Croydon Guardian. "He's a young midfield player with good size, great energy, and good mobility, so we'll see.

"It is important to give him the opportunity to develop, we haven't had to pay any money for him."

"He scored a great goal for us in the friendly against Arsenal and he deserves the chance. Along with Watson, Soares, Borrowdale and Togwell it gives us a good crop of youngsters."
