Palace snap up Birmingham keeper

Birmingham City keeper Nico Vaesen has signed for Palace on loan until the end of the season.

The experienced stopper has already been on loan at Gillingham and Bradford this season as he recovers from a serious knee injury.

The move is likely to signal another spell on the bench for current number one Cedric Berthelin, with 34-year-old Vaesen expected to go straight into the first team for Saturday’s clash with Norwich City.

It’s unclear yet whether the loan is with a view to a permanent move. However, Vaesen's Birmingham contract expires in the summer so it's definitely a possibility. The Blues are unlikely to renew the Belgian keeper's contract, as they look to sign on-loan keeper Maik Taylor for good.
