Palace v Liverpool - Team news preview

Last updated : 24 October 2005 By Nik Taylor

Palace will be missing several first-team regulars for the visit of the European champions on Tuesday night, after several knocks were picked up at the weekend.

Jon Macken was forced off during the win over Burnley and will sit out the Carling Cup clash. Danny Butterfield and Jobi McAnuff are also expected to miss out.

Andrew Johnson is still some way from making a full recovery from injury, so Iain Dowie is expected to start with Clinton Morrison and Dougie Freedman up front.

Dowie has fielded virtual reserve sides in this competition so far this season, but may be tempted to include a few more first team regulars since Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is expected to name a strong line-up.

The Reds could welcome back Steven Gerrard from injury, and are also expected to give a first team opportunity to reserve team captain David Raven in defence.

Probable Palace XI:

Speroni
Boyce Hall Hudson Fray
Soares Hughes Watson Reich
Morrison Freedman
