Palace v Northampton – Team news preview

Last updated : 06 January 2006 By Nik Taylor

The Eagles kick off their 2005/06 F.A. Cup campaign tomorrow, hoping to advance beyond the third round for only the second time in eight seasons.

Hopes will be boosted by the fact that Palace have been drawn at home in their opening fixture for the first time in those eight years – and against League Two opposition to boot.

However, Iain Dowie will be without two key players as Clinton Morrison and Fitz Hall are both suspended. Mark Hudson and Jon Macken are expected to cover for the pair – with Dougie Freedman probably starting should Andrew Johnson be rested.

Injury to Mikele Leigertwood should see Wayne Andrews bag a starting spot on the wing, while Tommy Black is also pushing for a chance to show what he can do.

Cobblers boss Colin Calderwood has a long list of injuries for the match, including key players Jason Crowe, Martin Smith and David Rowson.

Probable Palace XI:

Kiraly
Hudson Ward Popovic Boyce
Andrews Soares Watson Black
Freedman Macken
