Palace vs Ausburg Report

Last updated : 09 August 2014 By Matthew Roche
The Eagles last pre-season game saw them run out eventual 3-2 losers at Brentford last time out, which brought an end to their unbeaten summer run.

Their opponents today finished 8th in the German top flight last season, just one point and one place outside the Europa League qualification spots.

Pulis took a squad of 18 to Germany with the likes of Damien Delaney, Jonny Williams and Jerome Thomas all remaining in south London with slight injury concerns.

The first half was a dull affair with no goals and few opportunities for both sides with Ausburg looking the better side. The second half began with only one change at the break as Speroni gave way for Hennessey between the posts.

The second half began in a similar fashion as the first with little opportunities for both sides. Murray, Gayle and Bannan replaced Campbell, Bolasie and Puncheon midway into the second half.

Barry Bannan hit the post from a free kick and moments later Gayle put the ball into the back of the net only to have it ruled out for offside.

Further into the second half Paddy McCarthy made a return when he was was brought on for Scott Dann and Ledley's through ball gave Gayle the chance to take the lead but narrowley missed.

All in all the game produced few chances of excitement for the travelling fans. It ended 0-0 and with only one week to go before their Premier league opener to Arsenal minds will be focused now on securing another season in the top flight.
