Crystal Palace youngsters Lee Hills and Sean Scannell have had their contracts extended by a year, despite their long-term injuries.Defender Hills, 20, ruptured his knee ligaments at the end of last season, while Scannell, 21, injured his knee in a pre-season game against Exeter.

Palace boss George Burley told the club website he is hopeful about the pair.

"Both have suffered cruel luck with injury and will be looking to put this frustrating time behind them," he said.

Burley added: "They are both great professionals and these home-grown players fully deserve this extension to their current contracts."

Hills has appeared 47 times for the club since joining as a trainee three years ago, and has had loan spells at Oldham and Colchester.

Scannell, who has appeared for the Republic of Ireland at Under-21 and B international level, has scored six goals in his 81 appearances.
