Palace's final day permutations

Last updated : 03 May 2008 By Nik Taylor
It's all in Palace's hands going into the last game of the season. Win and we're in the play-offs for the second time in three seasons.

We could conceivably make it even if we were to get beaten tomorrow, though that would require a lot of results going our way.

Below are all the permutations for Palace's final day of the league season.

The matches that matter:

Palace v Burnley
Blackpool v Watford
Wolves v Plymouth
Ipswich v Hull
Southampton v Sheffield Utd
Bristol City v Preston
All kick off at 2pm on Sunday 5th May 2008.

Palace's possible results:

Palace win:
We will be guaranteed a play-off spot.

We will finish 4th if Bristol City lose and Watford fail to win.

We will finish 5th if Watford fail to win.

We will finish 6th if Watford also win.

Palace draw:
We will finish 5th if Watford lose, Wolves fail to win, Ipswich win by less than three goals and Sheffield United win by less than five goals.

We will finish 6th if Watford lose, and only ONE of the following happens: Wolves win, Ipswich win by three goals or more, Sheffield United win by five goals or more.

We will finish 6th if Watford do not lose, Wolves fail to win, Ipswich win by less than three goals and Sheffield United win by less than five goals.

We will finish outside the play-offs if TWO or more of the following happen: Watford do not lose, Wolves win, Ipswich win by three goals or more, Sheffield United win by five goals or more.

Palace lose:

We will finish 6th if Wolves, Ipswich and Sheffield United do not win their games.

We will finish outside the play-offs if we lose by seven goals and Wolves draw.

We will finish outside the play-offs if any ONE of the following happens; Wolves win, Ipswich win, Sheffield United win.

What it all boils down to:

If we win, we're in the play-offs.
If we draw, we're probably there so long as Wolves don't win at home to Plymouth.
If we lose, we're sweating on none of Wolves, Ipswich or Sheffield United winning.

The positions going into the final day:

4th - Bristol City - 71 points - GD -2
5th - Watford - 69 points - GD 6
6th - PALACE - 68 points - GD 11
7th - Wolves - 67 points - GD 4
8th - Ipswich - 66 points - GD 8
9th - Sheffield United - 66 points - GD 6

COME ON YOU EAGLES!!!
