Darren Powell’s proposed transfer to Reading has fallen through after Iain Dowie told the defender he wants him to stay and fight for his place.
The deal seem signed and sealed a few weeks ago, with the clubs already agreeing a fee of around £225,000 for the former Brentford man. Powell had also agreed personal terms with the Royals, and was due to have a medical this week.
But Dowie has now called a halt to that and wants the 28-year-old defender to fight for a place in the Palace back four.
