Reading poised to sign Powell

Reading are set to sign Darren Powell from Palace once the defender recovers from injury.

The Royals had already seen a £125,000 bid for the 27-year-old turned down, but Reading manager Steve Coppell has now had success with an undisclosed higher bid.

"We have agreed a fee with Palace and it’s one we can afford – that’s important," Coppell said.

"Darren is somebody I know who can come in and do a job for us. But he is injured at the moment so there is no rush to sign him."

Powell has spent much of this season in the treatment room, and Palace fans were looking forward to seeing him return to first-team action soon. But it seems that the arrival of central defender Mikele Leigertwood leaves no space in the squad for the former Brentford man.
