Routledge set on staying

Wayne Routledge has put an end to rumours linking him with a January move away from Selhurst Park by confirming he wants a new contract.

Spurs made a late bid for the player in the August transfer window, and it was widely believed he would be on his way before his deal expires in the summer.

But Routledge, capped at Under 20 level by England, appears ready to commit his future to the Eagles.

"I still want to stay at Palace, why not?", he told the Evening Standard. "It's an exciting period for the club so why not be a part of it?"

And it seems a key reason for Routledge’s decision has been the faith shown in him by Iain Dowie.

"He asked how I felt about it and told me I am a big part of his plans and he does not want me to go," Routledge said.

"It was good to hear him say that because you can sense things but when people tell you there is no doubt."
