Routledge snubs new Palace deal

In perhaps the most unsurprising story of the transfer window so far, Wayne Routledge has turned down the offer of a new, five-year Palace contract.

The superstar winger’s deal expires at the end of the season and Iain Dowie had appeared hopeful Routledge would pen a new one.

But it seems the 20-year-old’s head has been turned by interest from mighty Premiership super-powers such as, er, Spurs.

"Wayne has intimated to me that there is not going to be a positive response from him regarding the new deal," Dowie told the South London Press.

"But while he is still here and it goes unsigned I will spend every day and week trying to get him to change his mind."

Routledge cannot move for free in the summer because of his age – but the compensation Palace would get then would be peanuts.

So, following his refusal to sign, the Eagles are certain to cash in on the up-and-coming midfielder before the end of the month.
