Shipperley's Blades move complete

Neil Shipperley has completed his move to Sheffield United, signing for the Yorkshire club on a free transfer.

The 30-year-old striker struggled to re-establish himself in the Palace first-team last season, despite scoring the winning goal in the 2004 play-off final.

After Iain Dowie told him he did not feature in future plans, Shipperley had a clutch of offers from Championship sides.

He’s now put pen to paper on a two-year deal with promotion hopefuls United, and Blades boss Neil Warnock is delighted to have got his man.

"Whilst this might not be a big money signing I'm absolutely delighted because we have needed someone like Neil since 'The Chief' (Wayne Allison) left,'' Warnock told the club's official website.

"He's a player who can come on and change a game with his strength and experience, and we lacked that in some vital games last season.

"I like the fact that Neil wants to come here. There were six clubs in for him, he spoke to two, but he made it clear to Palace in the middle of last week that he wanted to join Sheffield United. In fact he said that if he wasn't allowed to come here then he would go nowhere and stay at Palace.''

Shipperley played 122 games for Palace during two spells at the club, scoring 32 goals in the process.
