The Eagles' shocking pre-Christmas form ultimately cost them any chance of promotion, but performances have generally improved since then culminating in Sunday's impressive win over high-flying Derby.
"We've talked all week about finishing [the season] well and we were desperate to finish off in a positive way," said Taylor
"I said to the players before the game that we were as good as Derby, but it's been frustrating this season and we haven't been as consistent which is why we aren't where we want to be."
Taylor praised the quality of his goalscorers, as well as the rest of the side, and hinted that he may not see the need to be too active in the transfer market over the summer.
"Mark Kennedy has had a good week in training and scored a few goals, so it was nice to see him score and he's got a quality left foot with a lot of power.
Clinton was excellent too and he was a real team player today, he scored the first goal and I thought he defended well at times.
"The players proved today that they are good enough and I don't think too many changes are needed."
