Darren Powell may be on his way to West Ham if he can’t agree a new contract at Selhurst Park. The central defender was linked with the Hammers during last season, but has now been offered a new deal with Palace. Powell told the South London Press: "I haven't heard anything since from the club but talks will start again soon, I'm sure. I have always said I want to stay at Palace and I'm happy here."

Palace are reported to be interested in signing Millwall central defender Darren Ward. Iain Dowie could fancy signing the player as a replacement for Gonzalo Sorondo, whose one-year loan deal from Inter Milan has come to an end.

Dowie is also believed to have targeted Manchester City striker Jon Macken as a potential partner for Andrew Johnson up front. Macken’s time at Eastlands seems to be over, with the striker apparently not in the plans of new boss Stuart Pearce. He joined City in 2002 for a fee of around £5m, but Palace would be able to get the player for a fraction of that as City look to trim their wage bill.
