Warnock reveals mathchday frustrations

The match was decided by some crucial decisions made by referee Mark Clattenburg. Palace fans and manager Neil Warnock were quick to voice their frustrations over close refereeing decisions. Whilst fans took to twitter to voice their opinions Neil Warnock vented to waiting reporters.

Warnock said: “They are there for everybody to see, aren’t they.

“He (Clattenburg) has had a cracking game, I wish we had him every week. He has just made two major errors that have been disappointing for us.

“They cost us dearly because the (Zaha) penalty is just before half-time, another great opportunity to score another goal – 100 percent a penalty.

“I’ve been told why we don’t appeal more, why we don’t surround the referee – so should we do what Chelsea did last week? Do they want me to start getting the players to surround the referee?

“You shouldn’t have to do that really.

“The lads have done brilliantly, they played some very good stuff.”

And on the Dawson elbow on Speroni, Warnock said: “The first goal just after half-time – I can’t understand why not one of the officials has seen that.

“It is an assault almost by Dawson.

“Two or three yards then run up and smash him in the face – no wonder he is a bit groggy.

“And he wanted to carry on!

“But I took the decision there was no point in carrying on because if he has given a goal for a smash in the face like that, what are they going to do next time they get a free-kick or a corner?

“They are going to do exactly the same – put it in the six-yard box and try and get away with it again. So I said no, get him off and it has cost us really because Fraizer Campbell and Yannick Bolasie have run out of steam at the end and I haven’t got another substitute.

“But I can’t fault the lads, I thought they were superb today.”

Pressed again about the incidents, Warnock was clearly reluctant to be drawn having been hit with an FA charge for questioning Craig Pawson’s decisions in last week’s home defeat to Chelsea.

The Eagles boss said: “I’ll let you judge for yourself when you see on television rather than me speaking about it. I’ve had enough talking to the FA.

“I thought he had a good game today but I haven’t seen something like that (Dawson on Speroni) since Bert Trautmann’s days if any of you are old enough to remember Bert Trautmann.

“He (Clattenburg) has had such a good game.

“It is alright for us looking at it, they have to make a decision.”

Warnock added: “The (Zaha) penalty – if it is not a penalty should he have booked him for diving if that is what he thought?

“I don’t know, but it is a certain penalty and Jules, when you see it!

“You can’t blame Alan Irvine, he is going to stick up for the lad but it is a smash – he has smashed him in the face and got away with it.

“I don’t know how but it takes a little bit away because it then gave them a lift and we were under the cosh a bit.

“As always, the third goal is vital.

“Early in the second half I thought we were comfortable even though they changed the system, but then something like that just gives you a kick and we are struggling then.

“We were hanging in there and then another penalty, which was a certain penalty, was given against us which was doubly hard to take.”
