Williams off again

Palace’s well-travelled Welshman Gareth Williams is packing his bags once again, after agreeing a loan deal with Second Division Colchester United.

The deal will mean 21-year-old Williams stays with the Layer Road side for the rest of the season.

Colchester fans will be doubtless be pleased to see the striker back, since he had an exceptional loan spell with them last season. During his eight matches there, Williams managed an impressive six goals. He’ll be hoping for a similar haul this time to bring him to the attention of manager Iain Dowie.

"With our forwards doing so well this season my chances of league football have been limited here," Williams told the official web site. "I'm hoping for a good spell until the end of the season playing first-team football."

Whether there’s a future at Palace for the Welsh frontman remains to be seen. Despite banging in sackloads of goals for the reserves, Williams has never really had a run of games in the first team. And at 21 he may be starting to wonder whether his career would take off more quickly at another club.
