Palace Res 1 West Ham Res 1

Palace’s second string rounded off their season on Tuesday night with a 1-1 draw at home to West Ham.

A young-looking side took on a Hammers team that included the once-good-but-not-any-more Sergei Rebrov.

But it was Rebrov who opened the scoring, curling home an exquisite free-kick on the hour mark.

Palace kept battling though, and got their reward with just six minutes left on the clock. Neil Shipperley nodded down a Ryan Hall cross onto the toes of Wayne Andrews, who blasted home the Palace equaliser.

Nicola Ventola made another appearance for the reserves, playing just over an hour. His early departure from this match should signal a second succesive spot on the subs bench for the Italian on Saturday, as he continues his return from injury.

The Palace reserves are now guaranteed to finish at least fourth in the Premiership Reserve League South. However, the Eagles will end up third if Southampton should lose their two remaining matches of the season.

Palace XI: Speroni; Fray, Wilson, Martin, Wiggins; Andrews, Welch, Danze, R Hall; Ventola (Berry ‘64), Shipperley
