A four-goal thriller was played out at Selhurst Park between these two sides on Wednesday night, with an experienced Palace side unable to carve out the win.

The Eagles side included the likes of Cedric Berthelin, Jamie Smith, Shaun Derry and Dougie Freedman. Ben Watson was also included as he works to regain his fitness following his groin operation.

Palace took the lead early in the first half with Tariq Nabil converting a Tommy Black cross. A lively game then saw chances at both ends before Brentford struck with their first equaliser on 24 minutes, and that was the way it stayed until half-time.

Come the second-half and Black was once again instrumental in creating Palace’s breakthrough. His cross eluded a number of Bees defenders, and Watson was on hand to hit home.

Palace were soon pegged back however, and despite some late chances the Eagles were unable to find a winner.

Palace XI:
Cedric Berthelin, Jamie Smith, Gary Borrowdale, James Gibson, Kit Symons, Shaun Derry, Tom Soares, Ben Watson, Dougie Freedman, Tariq Nabil, Tommy Black
