Palace Res 2 Southampton Res 1

Palace reserves continued their impressive start to the season with a solid win over Southampton last night.

New signings Vassilios Lakis and Anthony Danze both played the full 90 minutes, as did Neil Shipperley, Mikele Leigertwood and Danny Butterfield – all recovering from injury.

Dougie Freedman was once again on target, hammering home his claims for a first team spot with a 27th minute strike.

One became two before half-time with Tom Soares knocking the ball home from close range to give Palace a comfortable lead at the break.

Palace could have scored more, but let Saints back into it with just a minute of normal time remaining. A long distance shot should have been claimed by 19-year-old keeper Lance Cronin, but he somehow allowed it to squirm through his legs. However, Palace had done enough and claimed another three points.

Palace: Cronin, Butterfield, Hudson, Togwell, Leigertwood, Lakis, Derry, Danze, Soares, Freedman (Smith ‘73), Shipperley.
