Palace Res 3 Derby Res 1

Sandor Torghelle saw red for the second consecutive match, but Palace were still strong enough to win this match against a young Derby side.

The Eagles fielded an experienced team which included a handful of the players who humbled Charlton at the Valley last week.

One player who wasn’t in that side was Neil Shipperley, but he played the full 90 minutes last night despite his current tendonitis problem. Whether he will be able to overcome the injury without requiring the surgery that will put him out for five months remains to be seen.

It was Shipperley who opened the scoring just after the half-hour in this match, the striker heading in a Danny Butterfield cross from six yards.

The teams went in for the break at 1-0, but Derby were back on level terms with five minutes of the restart – a just reward for their attacking play.

With 15 minutes remaining a clumsy challenge by Torghelle saw him pick up his second yellow card and head off for an early bath once again.

But, as at Charlton, the disadvantage seemed to fire up Palace and the final minutes of the game belonged to the Eagles.

Soon the lead was restored when Ivan Kaviedes converted a penalty that had been won by Tommy Black.

And Kaviedes was soon on the scoresheet once again, scoring a solo effort after being released by Shipperley.

Palace are now up to third place in the Premiership Reserve League.
