An experienced Palace reserves side chalked up a resounding victory against Southend United’s second team on Wednesday night.

Kit Symons, Tommy Black and Jamie Smith all turned out for this reserve league match, and their presence helped the Eagles to a comfortable win.

It was Black who opened the scoring for the Eagles in the first half, hammering home his shot after good link-up play with triallist Jermaine Brown.

The teams went in at half-time with the score at 1-0, but that was soon to become two as Tom Soares capped an excellent Palace move with a fine strike. And the result was completed with a late penalty from Gareth Williams.

The reserves are currently mirroring the first team’s own good run of form, with the understudies having won their last four games. Palace are now fifth in the Combination League, having taken 14 points from eight matches.
