Friendly: Ipswich 2 Palace 1

Palace suffered their first defeat of the pre-season on a sweltering day at Portman Road this Saturday.

All three goals were scored in the first-half, with Ipswich making the perfect start through a Drissa Diallo header after only three minutes.

The Eagles were almost on level terms when Diallo’s attempted clearance rebounded off Andy Johnson and hit the woodwork – but Michael Hughes could only blast the rebound over from five yards out.

Soon after, Palace did get the equaliser – a quickly taken Shaun Derry free-kick causing confusion in the Ipswich defence and sailing straight in.

But parity was not to last long, as Dean Bowditch scored the last goal of the game shortly before half-time.

Palace:
Speroni,
Leigertwood (Borrowdale ‘45), Powell (Hudson ‘45), Popovic (Togwell ‘78), Boyce (Butterfield ‘45),
Routledge, Derry (Black ‘45), Rihilahti (Soares ‘78), Hughes (Dolan ‘78)
