Crystal Palace have agreed a fee to sign promising Dundee United midfielder Scott Banks after agreeing a pre-contract deal.
The Eagles, along with fellow top tier side Southampton, failed in their attempts to sign Banks last summer but now appears to have got their man.
Roy Hodgson's side could have signed the starlet for £200,000 in training compensation this summer, but decided to bring the Scot to Selhurst Park as soon as possible to ensure they got their target.
According to the Daily Record, the fee paid by Palace will be significantly greater than the amount they would have paid in the next summer transfer window, with add-ons possibly seeing the final sum rise further. The total for the talented youngster will certainly be in six figures.
The attacking midfielder is yet to make a mark at Dundee United with just one senior appearance for the Tangerines, but he did impress on loan at Clyde scoring one goal in 12 appearances.
The youngster rebuffed a new deal at the Scottish Championship side and decided to seek pastures new in England, although it seems highly unlikely he will make a significant impact for Palace in the foreseeable future.
Banks is highly regarded in Scotland and Hodgson was evidently willing to take a risk on the Linlithgow-born midfielder who has been at United since 2013.
Banks is set to undergo a medical with the Eagles next week and could become Palace's second signing of the January window. The London club have already brought in Everton's Cenk Tosun on loan, with the Turkish striker scoring his first Palace goal in the side's 2-2 draw with Manchester City on Saturday.
The impressive draw at the Etihad will see Palace finish the weekend in ninth place, eight points ahead of the drop zone, and only nine off the top four.
