Crystal Palace Receive New Offer From PSV for Patrick van Aanholt

Crystal Palace full-back Patrick van Aanholt could be on his way out of Selhurst Park after the club received an improved bid of £7.6m from PSV Eindhoven for the defender.

PSV's initial proposal of £4.2m was rebuked by the Eagles earlier this month, but the Eredivisie side were not dissuaded and have now responded with a counter offer.

Van Aanholt only has 18 months left on his current deal with Palace, and the Premier League club may find PSV's renewed interest too hard to turn down.

According to Sky Sports, the Dutch giants are determined to bring Van Aanholt back to his home country before the close of the transfer window on Friday.

The Netherlands international left PSV as a teenager to join Chelsea. After struggling to break into the first-team at Stamford Bridge, the left-back flitted around several English clubs, before signing for Palace from Sunderland for £14m three years ago.

The Dutchman has gone on to make 99 appearances for the Eagles, scoring a fairly impressive 13 goals in that time.

His late strike in the 2-1 win against Manchester United in August made history, as van Aanholt became the first-ever away player to score a last-minute winner at Old Trafford in the Premier League era.

Van Aanholt would leave a sizeable gap in the Palace defence were he to depart, but Roy Hodgson already has a keen eye on his successor, with Nathan Ferguson on the verge of signing for the Eagles.

Talks stalled on Ferguson signing an extension to his existing deal at the Hawthorns and Hodgson has been impressed by the 19-year-old's performances in the Championship this season.

If PSV do succeed in their latest attempt to secure Van Aanholt's services, then at least they will have a youthful and capable replacement in Ferguson to fall back on.
