Geoff Thomas on Football Focus tomorrow

Geoff Thomas will be featured on BBC1’s Football Focus show tomorrow afternoon, talking about how he plans to tackle the Tour de France route.

Geoff, still recovering from his own battle with leukaemia, has planned the marathon bike ride to raise money for charities that help those with the illness.

The former Palace captain has been in remission since January – but it will be five years more before he knows whether he has beaten the disease.

And in the summer he will cycle the entire route of Le Tour in the same time as the professional cyclists do it. It’s a feat that will see him cover an incredible 3,484km (2,165 miles) in just 21 days. He’ll be cycling, on average, 160km (100 miles) on every day of the expedition.

"One reason for doing it is to raise awareness and to raise as many funds for leukaemia research as possible," Geoff told the BBC. "But another reason is for myself personally.

"I've been through a battle for the past two years and I've reached the age of 40, midlife crisis stage!

"If I can get my life back on track, get my fitness back and achieve something like this, it would be a fantastic start to a new career and a new life for myself."

You can see Geoff on Football Focus on BBC1 at 12.10pm tomorrow (Saturday).
