Macken set for Ipswich return

Jon Macken could return Ipswich for the rest of the season – but a permanent deal is unlikely because of the striker's wage demands.

The former Manchester City player has scored three goals in 13 appearances for the Tractor Boys, and Ipswich boss Jim Magilton is keen to extend his loan deal.

Palace would prefer to cash in on the 29-year-old, who has failed to settle at Selhurst Park since his 2005 move there. However, he is one of the highest paid players for the Eagles, and Ipswich would probably find it difficult to cover his wages.

Palace boss Peter Taylor said: "To be fair to Jon, he probably found it a little bit tough here after a difficult first season with the club.

"That then put more pressure on his shoulders to succeed this season.

"I haven't had any contact from Jim Magilton yet, but I wouldn't rule it out that Jon returns to Ipswich."
